Note: the larger the ocarina the deeper the tone....and the timbre varies with the shape.
Note: these ocarinas are tuned to the Minor Pentatonic scale.....which was the most widely used scale in ancient times.... it was used by peoples from diverse cultures and lands the world over..... ......from the far orient to the native peoples of north and south america..... ......what these people had in common was that they lived closely to the Earth.....and the musical scale that they chose to play in was one that reflected that attunement to natural ways..... .......so, what i have discovered is that music played with the minor pentatonic scale reflects a mindset of naturalness and attunement with the Earth. And, further, since the western world is so out of touch with the Earth and so separated from Nature it makes sense to me that playing music in this scale can be healing to people and to the world.......
......i also tune them to Just Intonation tuning......which is another way of saying that they are finely pitched with the most concordant intervals......(the "even-tempered" tuning is a very poor compromise and has been in use for about 150 yrs...... 9 of the 12 intervals are from 10% to 18% of a semitone off pitch!!!..... very few people realize that there is even an adverse psychological effect that results from the evern-tempered tuning.....).
